Job Description:
Our client is seeking an Instructional Technologist to support its learning technology environment and online course delivery. This part-time role will work closely with faculty, instructional designers, and other learning technology team members to maintain and enhance courses within Canvas, support video and media technologies, troubleshoot instructional technology issues, and research new tools. The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of instructional technology experience, strong hands-on Canvas expertise, and the ability to independently manage detailed course-support activities while providing excellent service to faculty and staff.

Job Summary:

  • Support the maintenance and delivery of approximately 500–600 courses across recurring academic terms.
  • Review Canvas courses for accuracy, functionality, broken links, incorrect information, and other potential issues.
  • Complete course copies from staging environments into live Canvas courses at the beginning of academic terms.
  • Support a video migration initiative moving existing Kaltura content into Canvas to improve access to reporting and analytics.
  • Upload and manage course materials, videos, assessments, quizzes, and other learning objects within Canvas.
  • Provide technical support to faculty and teaching teams regarding Canvas and other instructional technologies.
  • Support final exams and other time-sensitive academic activities.
  • Troubleshoot instructional technology issues and determine appropriate resolutions or escalations.
  • Research new instructional technology tools, including functionality, usability, implementation requirements, and cost.
  • Conduct usability testing for new and existing learning technologies.
  • Support tools such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Turnitin, Poll Everywhere, and other learning technology platforms.
  • Assist with testing new Canvas features, integrations, and learning technology solutions.
  • Create and maintain documentation, training materials, and faculty communications.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group training and support when needed.
  • Independently manage assigned projects and tasks while participating in required team meetings.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers, faculty, staff, and other technology teams to improve the student and faculty experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2–3 years of instructional technology, learning technology, instructional design, or related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Canvas LMS.
  • Experience maintaining, reviewing, and supporting courses within Canvas.
  • Experience with video/media management platforms such as Kaltura, Panopto, Vimeo, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with a project management or work-management platform; Asana is preferred.
  • Experience supporting faculty, instructors, or other end users with instructional technologies.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn and evaluate new technologies.
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly when reviewing and maintaining large volumes of course content.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and patience when working with users of varying technical abilities.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Flexible and adaptable when deadlines, priorities, or academic needs change.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CidiLabs DesignPLUS experience.
  • HTML experience.
  • H5P experience.
  • Graphics or multimedia development experience.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, Storyline, or similar content-development tools.
  • Experience with accessibility and quality assurance tools.
  • Experience supporting Kaltura specifically.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Experience developing or delivering faculty training.
  • Experience with learning technology integrations and LTIs.
  • Experience with AI-enabled learning technologies.
  • Familiarity with LMS analytics and reporting.
